2 Arrested In Fairfield With 1,000 Pieces Of Stolen Mail

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (AP) -- Police arrested a man and a woman after a search at a home north of San Francisco turned up more than 1,000 pieces of stolen mail.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Friday that detectives found the mail and other stolen property after a probation search.

Police say the property was taken during suspected commercial and residential burglaries and auto thefts.

Police arrested 38-year-old Briana Morales and 29-year-old Emilio Varela on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of counterfeit checks, possession of forged identification cards and criminal conspiracy.

Morales was also booked on a probation violation stemming from an earlier identity theft conviction.

Authorities say the stolen mail belonged to at least 24 people from Napa, Novato, Stockton, Martinez and Sacramento.

It was not immediately known if the two have attorneys. The case remains under investigation.
