16 Fallen Firefighters Honored In Sacramento Ceremony

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Uniformed firefighters, officials and family members of 16 firefighters who died in the line of duty have honored them in a ceremony in Sacramento.

The ceremony Saturday featured a solemn uniformed firefighter procession, flag presentations to relatives and the traditional "Last Alarm" bell ringing ceremony.

The names of the 16 firefighters were also added to the California Firefighters Memorial.

Located at the center of Sacramento's Capitol Park, the California Firefighters Memorial bears the names of nearly 1,300 California firefighters who have died in the line of duty since California became a state in 1850, whether from traumatic injury or job-related illness.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris says adding their names to the wall will "insure that we never forget their service to the people of California."
