1 Person Rescued, 1 Missing Off Central California Beach

GUADALUPE, Calif. (AP) - Rescuers say three people were swept into the ocean during a baptism ceremony at a Central Coast beach, and only one of them has been found.

Santa Barbara County fire officials tell the Santa Maria Times that the 43-year-old man remained missing Sunday evening. Two other people who were swept out to sea at the Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve west of the small town of Guadalupe returned to shore.

Members of a Santa Maria church were conducting a baptism at the beach at the time Sunday morning. The pastor of Santa Maria church Jesus Christ Light of the Sky said about 25 people were at the ceremony.

Rescue crews from several local fire departments along with a U.S. Coast Guard boat were searching for the missing person.
