STOCKTON (CBS13) – A person was hit and killed by a car that authorities had been chasing Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Stockton Police Department, California Highway Patrol was chasing a gold Mercedes. At some point, the Mercedes disappeared and CHP broke off the chase.

Stockton Police then started fielding a few 911 calls reporting sightings of the suspect car.

By the time authorities tracked the suspect car, it had crashed into two other vehicles – a red Honda and white Nissan – near Market and Union Streets.

The driver of one of Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. No one was inside the white Nissan.

CHP officers were able to get to the scene in time and have detained one person. That person has not been identified at this time.
