Powerful winter storm brought heavy snow to the Sierra, rain in the valley

Drivers take it slow on slick and snow covered I-80
Another storm system moved across Northern California Saturday, bringing more rain and heavy snow to Northern California.
CBS Sacramento declared Saturday a First Alert Action Day. Around 10-20 inches of snow were expected in the Sierra.

Chain controls lifted
After more than 24 hours, Caltrans said all chain controls on Interstate 80 and Highway 50 have been lifted.

As of 2:30 p.m. Sunday, chain controls were lifted on Interstate 80 over Donner Summit for eastbound traffic. Chain controls remain in place for westbound drivers from the Nevada State Line to Truckee.
❄️ CHAIN CONTROL UPDATE ❄️ (01/07/24 2:30pm)
Chain control has been lifted on I-80 over Donner Summit however, due to icy road conditions, R2 chain control is in effect on westbound I-80 only from the Nevada State line to Truckee.
According to Caltrans' website, Highway 50 does not have chain controls.
For Highway 20, chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from about six miles east of Nevada City to Interstate 80.
Chain controls update
Trucks are being turned around on Highway 20 in Nevada County near Nevada City.
Chain controls are in effect on Interstate 80, Highway 267, Highway 28 and Highway 89 in the Sierra.
