Youngstown Rape Suspect Charged In Victim's, Victim's Grandparents' Deaths

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An Ohio man charged with raping a 10-year-old girl has now also been charged with murdering her and her grandparents.

Robert Seman, of Youngstown, is accused of raping 10-year-old Corrine Gump.

But Gump and her grandparents, Billy and Judy Schmidt who are both deaf, were killed in a fire early March 30, the same day the rape trial was scheduled to begin.

Today, a grand jury indicted Seman on charges he murdered Gump and her grandparents.
He is charged on multiple counts, including 10 counts of murder.

"The grand jury determined that there was sufficient evidence to return an indictment on 10 counts of aggravated murder with accompanying death specifications for the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these three individuals," said Paul Gains, Mahoning County Prosecutor.

Last month, the defense asked for the rape charges against Seman to be dropped due to the victim's death.

In addition to the rape charge, Seman is also accused of bribing a witness.

Prosecutors say he offered a witness $10,000 to say that Gump was lying when she said Seman raped her.
