Man Drowns In Yough River Near Belle Vernon

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An 18-year-old man drowned in the Youghiogheny River in Westmoreland County Saturday.

The coroner says Dallas Kennedy was swimming at Smithton Beach in Belle Vernon, when he went under the water.

He was under the water for about 20 minutes and friends pulled him to shore and started CPR.

"We started floating towards him and then another guy went out in his kayak and started helping and he found him and pulled him out of the water and he was pale as a ghost," said Michael Parton who witnessed the incident.

"Brought him to shore, luckily the paramedics were here to try and save him," said another witness.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
