You Need To Eat This: National Donut Day

Yes, it's officially summer and we're getting ready for swimsuit season. But more importantly, let's put our bikini dreams aside for a little while because it's National Donut Day.

Yup … Dreams. Do. Come. True.

So, to celebrate, here's a little list of some yummy donut spots in the city:

Peace, Love and Little Donuts: This place has funky and delicious mini specialty donuts. You can find donuts here with just about any topping you can think of, including M&Ms, coconut, apple pie, raspberry lemonade and of course, bacon. But they're little, so don't feel so slovenly for eating half a dozen. You can find them on Smallman St. in the Strip District.

Bella Christie's & Lil Z's Sweet Boutique: This Lawrenceville bakery also has lots of specialty donuts. Here you can find Nutella, maple-bacon, Boston crème and Samoa donuts.

Better-Maid: This is seriously a hole-in-the-wall kind of place with amazing donuts. It's in a little pink house off of Steuben St. in Crafton Heights. It barely has a sign and you have to wake up with the sun to make sure you can get some, but it's totally worth it. They have all your standard flavors, but taste really authentic and homemade. One of my favorites is the cinnamon sugar.

Paddy Cake: This well-known Bloomfield bakery makes every kind of amazing treat, which also includes donuts. They also have your typical flavors, made well and sell out quickly too.

Grandview Bakery: Another bakery that makes tons of delicious sweets, but also has some unique donuts. Most of the donuts here are really big and hefty. As a typical two-donut per-serving eater, one is enough to satisfy me here. My favorite is the giant glazed donut covered in Fruity Pebbles. Also, for National Donut Day, they'll sell you a coffee and a donut for $1.

And Bonus – Giant Eagle is selling a dozen donuts for $2.99 today, and Dunkin' Donuts is giving out a free donut with every beverage purchase.

Go find some donuts and have a delicious National Donut Day!
