Worker Struck By Freight Train In Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY (KDKA) -- Authorities are investigating after a worker was struck by a freight train in Lawrence County Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday near Cherry Street and Industrial Road in New Castle. The worker was struck by a CSX train and suffered what New Castle firefighters and paramedics call a "traumatic" injury. The worker was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

CSX issued a statement Sunday saying that a contractor was injured while working on CSX property, but they did not provide any further details.

The victim's identity has not yet been released, and his current condition is unknown.

The incident is under investigation.
