Woman, Unconscious Man Rescued From River Rock Using Heroin

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Crews had to rescue a man and woman from a boulder in the middle of a western Pennsylvania river after the man became unconscious, possibly from using heroin.

Authorities aren't releasing the names of the 20-something couple plucked from the rock in the Conemaugh River near Johnstown.

The woman called 911 about 8 p.m. Wednesday and fire rescue crews used a rope system to reach the couple.

Franklin Borough Fire Chief Jeff Weir assisted in the rescue and says it appears the couple were using heroin when the man passed out.

They were taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, where their conditions weren't released.

Police say they were continuing to investigate.
