Woman Suspected Of Shooting Cleveland Police Chief's Brother Has Died

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - A woman suspected of fatally shooting the brother of Cleveland's police chief has died in a Pittsburgh hospital, where she's been since shooting herself in the head on Tuesday.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office in Pittsburgh on Thursday confirmed 36-year-old Dana Johnson's death, but couldn't immediately say when she died.

That's because her body was still in the custody of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education, which was overseeing the donation of her organs.

Officials at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital didn't immediately respond to a request for information.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers spotted the vehicle on Interstate 376 and attempted to pull Johnson over. Initially, Johnson refused to stop and police followed her south until backup arrived and surrounded her car.

After stopping her vehicle, Johnson shot herself in the head and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

"There was a letter found in her car, how she wanted her remains to be disposed," said Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh. "She was bent on taking her own life."

She was wanted on charges that she killed the chief's brother, 34-year-old William D. Williams, at her home.
