Woman Shot, Injured Outside North Side Wine & Spirits Store

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) - Police are looking for the man they say accidentally shot his girlfriend after a fight near a Wine and Spirits store on the North Side Tuesday night.

According to police, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on East Ohio Street,

Police believe the man went to hit his girlfriend with a gun, when it accidentally went off and shot her in the arm.

The bullet went through the front window of Wine and Spirits store. Fortunately, the store was closed and nobody was inside.

Robert Steadman lives nearby and wants the violence to stop.

"I just want the violence to stop. I got babies growing up," Steadman said. "It could have been mine out there. The gun could have went any way."

A man who works at Pickles Bar next door told KDKA-TV's Amy Wadas that he's seen the couple walking the streets many times.

"I was walking up about midnight when I saw a couple fighting and that. He shot the gun off. He picked it up again. She was up at the hospital bleeding or something. There was a lot of blood tracks," he said.

"We need to put the guns down and go to church. I mean, the only way out is to get yourself to Christ. If not, then you're going to be wrapped up into society and drugs. It [isn't]the right way," Steadman said.

After the woman was shot, police say she took off and checked into Allegheny General Hospital. She was last listed in stable condition.

Police say the man grabbed his gun off the ground and took off after her. Police described the man as Hispanic. He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and had a goatee.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, you're being asked to call police.
