Woman Shot In The Mouth During Elliott Home Invasion

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman was shot Wednesday morning while trying to hide from at least one gunman who broke into a duplex in the city's Elliott neighborhood.

The home invasion happened a little before 7 a.m. in the 1100-block of Lakewood Street.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, the suspect kicked in the door to the residence and came inside firing off multiple gunshots. A second suspect may have also been involved.

The woman and a 22-year-old man, who were home at the time of the incident, ran into a closet to hide.

Officials say the gunman shot at that closet, hitting the 43-year-old woman in the mouth.

She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital where she is in stable condition.

The man was not injured.

There's no word if anything was taken from the home, but a 6-month-old puppy is missing.

"There was also a dog in the home at the time that's currently missing," said Emily Schaffer, a Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokesperson. "We don't know if the dog was shot as well or if it was scared."
