SOUTH PARK (KDKA) - Firefighters rescued a woman who became caught in floodwaters early Monday morning after a water main break.

The water main break happened around 4 a.m. near Piney Fork Road in South Park Township.

Pennsylvania American Water crews were at the scene all morning.

The road looked like part of the nearby creek. In the middle of the road sat a gray car. The driver had to be rescued after getting stuck.

The car was attached to a tow truck to be pulled away, but crews wanted to wait before moving it.

"He might have been in there when it happened, who knows?" said Herbert Mann of South Park.

Mann didn't lose water, but the water was turned off for some nearby homes in the area.

Mann says this isn't the first time the main has broken.

"I think the last time was three years ago because they store salt in the one section of the tunnel. It washed a lot of that salt down into the creek and it killed all the fish and some other stuff, trees and stuff around there. This isn't the first time," he said.

Pennsylvania American Water doesn't have an expected time when the main will be repaired. They are working with volunteer firefighters and contractors.

As of 2:30 p.m., crews were still at the scene and will continue to assess the situation. A small number of customers in the area may be without water for an extended period of time. Piney Fork Road will remain closed while repairs are being made.

Also, classes were canceled for Bower Hill Road Elementary in Peters Township.
