Woman Dies After Skiing Accident At Seven Springs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- She was a school nurse, an extraordinary cook and an adventurer.

And for Roger Strane, 52-year-old Fran Strane was his soul mate.

"She enabled me in ways I cant even imagine. I don't know where I'd be without," said Strane.

Fran Strane died on Sunday from injuries suffered in a skiing accident at Seven Springs on Jan. 31. The loss of this one woman is felt not only in the family, but so many other places.

"She was involved in our masses, our 6 p.m. regional mass," said Fr. Ken Zaccagnini. "She'd make sure every ministry position was covered. We had mass last night and I missed her. I could just feel she wasn't there."

Fran Strane was missing from Penn Elementary school, where she was the school nurse and so much more.

"For me, she taught me everything about being a school nurse. There were a few school nurses that knew how to do it well. Fran was one of those," said Strane's coworker Betsy Sandala.

In addition to a husband, Fran Strane leaves a daughter Elizabeth, 23, who's getting married later this year and a son James, 22, who's graduating from college in the spring.

Life will go on, but it won't be easy.

"It's so encompassing when it comes down to it," Roger Strane said. "When you get down to it, in what she accomplished and kept together and her devotion to her family and job and activities. We're gonna miss her tremendously."
