Witnesses: Woman Stabbed Neighbor's Dog Because Of The Attention It Got

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania woman has been jailed on charges she broke into a neighbor's apartment and stabbed her dog in the process.

Virginia Campbell was arrested and jailed on Monday, her 24th birthday, in connection with the May 5 burglary of an apartment one floor above hers in Somerset.

Police also charged Campbell with filing a false report that her apartment was burglarized. Witnesses told police that Campbell complained about all the attention the stabbed dog received before acknowledging she killed the animal and made up the story about her unit being burglarized.

The 15-year-old Pomeranian, which belonged to 43-year-old Tina McMillan, was euthanized because of a severe knife injury to its head.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Campbell, who faces a preliminary hearing May 19.
