Witnesses Jump In, Keep Car From Rolling Onto Roof After Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A car crash in Carrick could've been much worse if it weren't for two men who kept the car from rolling onto its roof.

Police say it happened around noon, when two people in the car, described by authorities as seniors, went off the road and hit a tree.

Officials haven't said what caused the crash, but witnesses on the street said based on the sound of the engine, a female driver hit the wrong pedal.

"We seen a car coming around the corner and I don't know – it seemed like she picked up speed – and I don't know if she hit the brake, she wanted to hit the brake and wound up hitting the gas instead," said Joe Kellington of Brookline.

"I was actually holding the car because it was rocking," said Rick Smith of Carrick.

According to officials, the two people taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
