Winter BeerFest To Bring Hundreds To Convention Center This Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's a place you want to show up thirsty: The Winter Beerfest at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Hundreds of beers and nearly 16,000 people are expected.

It's a place to try craft beers from across the country and right here in our area, and it's become so popular Saturday is sold out, with 9,000 tickets sold in advance.

Colleen Washko, from North Huntingdon, came with a list of beers she wanted to try.

"It's really cool. It's a nice environment. Everyone's very friendly. The brewers are very happy to tell you about their beer and what's in it," said Washko.

"It's the largest attendance we've ever had in the Pittsburgh Convention Center," said Matt Utter, one of the organizers. "We're super excited. It's really blown up. We have about 370 different craft beers on the main floor."

They also have cider. Arsenal Cider from Lawrenceville had quite a line of people armed with mugs anxious for a sample.

"It's a beerfest, but cider is being introduced more into the craft beer scene, so it's really good to have people see us," said Jody O'Donnell from Arsenal Cider.
