Man Facing Several Charges After Police Chase Ends In Crash
WILMERDING (KDKA) - Vincent Strader is facing reckless driving charges among others after he was taken into custody following a police chase through East McKeesport overnight.
"Vehicle traveling down Fifth Avenue, vehicle refuses to stop," said East McKeesport Police Chief Russ Stroschein.
According to police, Strader ran from a traffic stop, leading police on a chase. They say he reached speeds of up to 90 mph.
The chase came to an end on the Patton Street Bridge when Strader crashed his vehicle into a barrier.
"The officer initially backed off some too when he (Strader) couldn't navigate the turn and crashed," said Stroschein.
Strader then left his vehicle and began running toward Wilmerding. At this point, Allegheny County Police were called to assist in apprehending him.
An officer observed him pull out a weapon and throw it into Turtle Creek. With the help of the Swissvale K-9 Unit and the Monroeville Fire Department, they were able to locate the gun in the water.
"He turned towards the officer and he tossed a firearm that turned out to be a pellet gun over the bridge into Turtle Creek below," said Stroschein.
"Nobody was hurt, no other vehicles were involved, no other citizens got hurt during the pursuit. That's the most important thing."
Strader remains in the Allegheny County Jail, unable to post bail. He's charged with resisting arrest, eluding police and reckless driving.
