Westmoreland County Man Charged, Accused Of Assaulting State Trooper

ARNOLD (KDKA)- A Westmoreland County man is facing charges after allegedly attacking a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper.

Trooper Adam Thomas stopped 28-year-old Anthony Howell for alleged traffic violations around 3 p.m. on Monday. It happened along Constitution Boulevard, near Catalpa Street in New Kensington.

According to the Tribune-Review, Howell fought with the trooper, which forced the trooper to use a Taser on him. Trooper Thomas used the Taser on Howell as he tried to run away.

Both men suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

Howell has been charged with felony aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing police, disorderly conduct and four traffic citations.

According to the Tribune-Review, Howell was just released from jail three weeks ago for a conviction on drug charges.  Howell has at least a dozen convictions dating back to 2006, most are for drug-related charges.
