1 Transported To The Hospital After Fire In Westmoreland County Senior High Rise
WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) -- One person was transported to the hospital after a fire at a Westmoreland County senior high rise.
Officials said there was a multiple alarm fire at the Scottdale Manor Apartments on Pearl Street on Tuesday night.
Residents were evacuated, and there were no serious injuries.
"I believe five or six occupants will be displaced, and we're setting them up with some housing with the Red Cross and coordinating with the Red Cross and the housing authority," said Ben Savanick, the assistant Scottdale fire chief.
Those displaced residents will be staying at a shelter at Southmoreland Elementary School.
The fire started on the second floor around 7:45 p.m., and officials believe the fire was accidental in nature and electrical related.
The Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania was on the scene assisting those impacted.
The fire quickly went to multiple alarms due to the number of floors and residents inside who needed help getting out.
