West Penn Burn Center Launches "Space Heaters Need Space" Campaign

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- With winter in full effect, West Penn Burn Center has announced the start of its "Space Heaters Needs Space" campaign.

Teaming up with the Etna and Monroeville fire companies, as well as the Allegheny County Fire Academy, Allegheny Health Network's initiative aims to inform people of the many risks that can come with the improper use of a space heater. To show the dangers, they even recorded a demonstration showing how quickly household items can catch fire should it be close to the space heater.

Nearly one-third of all house fires involved a space heater, and is the cause of almost 80 percent of all fatal house fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
