Police: Man Tells West Mifflin Police He's Turning Himself In For Killing His Mother, Police Find Her Body Inside Home

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) - A man reportedly called West Mifflin 911 and said he was surrendering himself to the police for killing his mother.

According to Allegheny County Police, they responded to 713 Shady Lane where they found 42-year-old Kenneth Burdick standing on the front porch of the house just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Police say they found Burdick's 80-year-old mother, Dolores Burdick, dead inside.

Burdick turned himself over to police peacefully, according to the press release.

When interviewed by police, Burdick said that on Friday morning he entered his mother's bedroom, began hitting her, knocked her to the ground and then kicked and stomped her. Then, he admitted to throwing her down the basement stairs and then dragged her across the basement and left her body there.

Cynthia Domen is a neighbor of the Burdicks and she was shocked to hear the news.

"Dolores was a very kind, and gentle woman," she said. "She was just a lovely older lady who lost her husband a few years back who had an only child who was Kenneth. I'm feeling very confused and sad. Sad for both of them. I don't know what made him do this. She was all he had. When I would visit her, I would ask how he was doing she would go 'shh', she didn't want him to hear. My son tried to play with him. He was a loner. He didn't come outside. He didn't do anything."

Detectives noticed blood on Burdick's socks and shoes they also noted blunt force trauma injuries to Burdick's mother's head and facial areas.

County Police launched an investigation and learned of a history of domestic disturbance calls to the residence. There were no active PFAs, police say.

Burdick has been transported to the Allegheny County Jail where he will await arraignment.
