Family being assisted by Red Cross after landslide forces them from their home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A family had to evacuate their home after a landslide in the South Hills.

The apartment was condemned after the landslide near Brookside Avenue on Saturday.

No one in the family of three was injured, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety said. The Red Cross is now helping them.

Citing "hazardous conditions," public safety asked people to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

West Liberty Avenue was closed from Cape May to Pioneer avenues. Brookside Avenue was also closed from Princess to West Liberty.

It has since reopened.

The Port Authority said a landslide and tree down at West Liberty Avenue and Brookside are impacting service. The closure is also detouring the red line bus shuttle.

For bus routes impacted by the closure, the Port Authority is tweeting updates and detours.

The landslide comes after hours of heavy rain. So far this month, we've seen 2.87 inches of rain.
