Weekend Games To Present Traffic Nightmare

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you're going to this weekend's sporting events, be sure to expect some parking and traffic changes on the North Shore.

Both the Pirates and Pitt football play Saturday, which officials say will present lots of challenges for parking and driving.

Pitt plays at Heinz Field at noon and the Pirates play at 4:05 p.m.

For college football fans, there will be no parking conflict. All the North Shore stadium parking is already reserved for Pitt.

As for those coming to the Kickoff and Rib Festival, the serving starts at 10 a.m., but there is no cash parking is available between the stadiums.

That means festival-goers will have to park in town and use the T or foot power to get to the North Shore.

The big issue comes when Pirates' fans want to arrive to tailgate. Pitt fans will already be parked.

"If you are a cash-paying parker, you will not have access to the North Shore," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly.

In fact, the police will have it sealed off. So, head for town and the T. If you have reserved Pirate parking, you're pass will get you into the area.

"If the lot that they are assigned is not available at the time they come in, they will be redirected to another lot here on the North Shore," said Coonelly.

Connelly says the Pirates recommended you arrive between 12:30 p.m., which is after the Pitt game begins, and 2:30 p.m., before Pitt fans leave.

As an incentive, the Pirates are opening up PNC Park early and offering 50 percent off beer and appetizers discounts until a half hour before game time.
