Weather Alerts In Effect As Snow Showers Move Through Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Snow showers are moving through the Pittsburgh region today, but any accumulation is expected to be minimal.

Rain started turning into snow in western Pennsylvania around 4 a.m.

According to KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla, the snow showers will continue through the evening hours.

"Probably up through about midnight tonight, and then things are going to gradually taper off overnight," he said.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. on Friday for the following counties in Pennsylvania:

Cambria, Fayette, Mercer, Somerset, Venango and Westmoreland

"An inch or less locally, maybe a slightly higher total along the ridge tops or north of I-80 but locally an inch or less," Verszyla said.

Also, a Flood Advisory is in effect for Allegheny County through 11:30 p.m. Friday.

For Friday, Verszyla says conditions will remain brisk and chilly with lingering clouds.

As for the weekend, Saturday remains cooler than the seasonal norm with a warmup on Sunday.
