Water Line Leak Floods Buildings Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A water line leak flooded some buildings Saturday morning as crowds began gathering in Downtown Pittsburgh the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The leak, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, was in a private service line.

It happened in the building that houses the Carlysle condominiums on Third Avenue.

Water was seen gushing inside the building, filling the basement with five feet of water or more.

Buildings on 4th Avenue and Wood Street were also affected.

Crews with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority were called in to assist, but the leak was on private property in a private line. They shut off a 12-inch water main on Third Avenue so a contractor could make repairs.

The leak did not disrupt the St. Patrick's Day Parade, but PWSA officials say it did delay crews in getting to the scene.
