Waste Disposal Workers Find Woman's Body At Mercer Co. Landfill

PINE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State Police in Mercer County are investigating after a young woman's body was found by workers Wednesday afternoon at a waste disposal site.

The discovery was made around 3 p.m. at the Tri-County Industries, Inc. facility, a transfer station, in Pine Township.

Authorities say the workers called police after finding the body.

The woman has not been identified, but state police describe her as a white female between the ages of 16 to 25. She had long, brown hair, blue eyes, pierced ears and was about 5-feet tall.

She was wearing black yoga pants, a black tank top, white ankle socks with green trim and a green bra.

State police have crews going through the landfill today in Jackson Township, looking to see if there is an related evidence such as a purse or any identifying items.

Employees at the transfer station were interviewed, and state police say investigators are also looking into reports of missing women throughout the region.

"Tri-County can estimate that this body came to their transfer facility sometime between approximately midnight last night and 3 p.m. today, so also a very broad range," said Trooper Dan Kesten, of Pennsylvania State Police. "The female is unidentified at this point. We're in the course of interviewing all the employees at Tri-County, also going through all the missing persons that we have in our database, contacting all the other law enforcement agencies and also sending out messages to other law enforcement agencies."

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday in Erie.

Trooper Kesten told KDKA-TV News that trucks come into the transfer station from a wide area, ranging from Clarion County to Erie to Youngstown, Ohio. From Tri-County, the refuse is then put in larger trucks, and taken out to a landfill.
