WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man was killed while working with a backhoe in Westmoreland County on Sunday evening.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old James Tonecha, of Washington Township.

It happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Tonecha's property in the 200 block of Pine Run Church Road.

Tonecha was operating a backhoe at the time of the incident.

Washington Township Police say it appeared that the backhoe slid back, causing Tonecha to fall to the outer part.

The Westmoreland County coroner's office was found near the back of the enclosed cab of the backhoe with evidence of trauma to his body.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed Monday.
