Washington County Standoff Ends Peacefully

WASHINGTON COUNTY (KDKA) – Police have arrested two people after a short standoff at a home in Washington.

It started at the Circle K on West Chestnut Street as a call for a shoplifting incident.

When officers took a handful of juveniles into custody, they noticed they had allegedly stuffed candy into their jackets. But one female, who is also pregnant, had something else on her.

"She was palming a bundle of heroin," said Washington County Police Patrolman Joseph Ficter.

The kids eventually led investigators to where they were staying on Addison Street.

Officers surrounded the home at the corner of Addison Street and McCarrell Avenue, but saw something alarming on the second floor.

"At the time, we had an officer in the back and observed a male in the window with a gun," said Ficter.

Police then locked down the area and the man barricaded himself in a back room.

It was a brief standoff and several other people inside the building came out -- as did the alleged gunman peacefully.

Investigators then went in and say they found drugs inside the home.
