He attended the Washington Alliance Church and his faith and care for others was a hallmark of this young man's character during his 25 years of life.

RELATED STORIES:

It's been a steady stream of family and friends coming to the viewing of Nicholas Cumer today at the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home in Washington.

Cumer was a volunteer right around the corner at Washington Hospital in their Physical Therapy Department.

The 25-year-old went to St. Francis University after High School following his passion for helping others. He was a graduate student in the cancer care program when his studies and an internship took Nicholas to Dayton.

A gunman last weekend took his life and the lives of nine others and injured many more.

Cumer was out with friends from the Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, where he was interning.

Another of his friends from St. Francis University was also interning there, according to the St. Francis University administration.

That friend was also injured in the Dayton shooting.

Her name is Kelsey Colaric from Parma, Ohio.

St. Francis University released a photo of Nicholas and Kelsey today together. They are smiling side by side wearing their work St. Francis shirts, and another wearing their Maple Tree Cancer Alliance shirts.
