Washington County Mayors Take Ice Bucket Challenge

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- Four mayors. Four police chiefs. Four buckets.

And a big cooler of ice.

That's right - the Ice Bucket Challenge has landed literally on Main Street USA, on the steps of the Washington City Hall.

"There have been several mayors in Washington County that have been challenged either by our family or constituents to do ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, so we come together in unity in the City of Washington to accept our challenge," said Washington Mayor Brenda Davis.

Mayor Davis, East Washington Mayor Mike Gomber, Canonsburg Mayor Dave Rome and Houston Mayor Jim Steubnbordt had ice water poured on their heads by the police chief of each of their communities.

"We as the police chiefs have to make this fair and it has to be above board. Now, Mayor Davis brought this five gallon bucket," said Washington's police chief.

Once the buckets were made more uniform, and all the ice was used up, it was time for the police chiefs to give their mayors the shock that they're expecting.

Turns out once was enough for them, but that's just the beginning of the mayor challenge.

"I extend a challenge to all Allegheny County mayors," said Mayor Gomber.

"Mayor Bill Peduto, you have 24 hours to complete this mission or donate to the ALS foundation," said Mayor Davis.

So what does it feel like?

"It feels extremely cold, but wonderful to join together with these mayors," added Mayor Davis.
