Washington County Deputy Sheriff Cpl. Chad Beattie dies on duty

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) - The Washington County Sheriff's Office has lost one of its deputies. 

Cpl. Chad Beattie experienced a sudden cardiac event while on duty on Wednesday, according to a Washington County Coroner's report.

The sheriff's office said it happened while Beattie was responding to a call to help South Strabane Police. There was a foot chase with a wanted suspect in a Target store, and after returning to his vehicle, Beattie became ill.

He was taken to the Washington Hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead. 

"The entire Washington County sheriff's office expresses its deepest sympathies to Cpl. Beattie's family and friends on their loss and mourns the loss of a friend and colleague," the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Beattie was 45. 

He began working with the sheriff's office in 2002.

"During his distinguished career, he earned the rank of corporal and served on the Fugitive Unit for most of his career. Cpl. Beattie was a proud father and was an outstanding asset to the Washington County Sheriff's Office," his colleagues said in a news release.
