State Fire Marshal Investigating Large Blaze In Washington Co.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The state fire marshal is looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Washington County.

It started around 2:30 a.m. at a home at the corner of Blakemore Drive and Millers Run Road.

A man inside the home had to escape through the front window of the house.

He was injured while escaping and taken to UPMC Mercy hospital for treatment.

Fire crews say this fire burned hot.

"Well, there was a two-story residence and flames were basically coming out of every window and door opening, so it was pretty well involved," said Cecil Township Fire Chief Ed Povirk.

"The neighboring house did have their vinyl siding burned off, significant amount of heat," he added, "from the size of the fire we had when we arrived, naturally it's going to have quite a bit of heat involved."

One firefighter suffered minor burns fighting the fire.

A total of 40 to 50 firefighters brought the fire under control.
