Walmart To Offer Pickup Discount On Thousands Of Online-Only Items

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Attention shoppers!

Walmart is trying to combine the ease of shopping online with an extra discount to get you into their brick and mortar stores.

"It starts on April 19 and what it's going to do is help our customers save money," Christopher Dziobak, assistant manager at Walmart's Robinson store, told KDKA money editor Jon Delano on Wednesday.

Customers who order products online and have them delivered to their nearest Walmart instead of to their home will get a special price discount, says Dziobak.

None of these discounted products are sold in the stores.

"There's going to be 10,000 items at launch on April 19. By June, they're looking to have over a million items already with the additional discount," Dziobak said.

Rebecca Gourley, of Oakdale, who's already ordered online for delivery at Walmart, says the best price is more important than the free two-day delivery to her home.

"I like the best value," she says.

The savings can range from a couple bucks to $50.

For some, it's more than price.

"Price, [and] assurance that I can go get it when I need to go get it, and not depending on it to get to my house. I'd rather go get it myself," says Richard Campbell, of Carrick.

Walmart insists that a customer won't have to wait more than five minutes to pick up a purchase.

Once the customer has checked in, they walk over to the pickup station. If nobody is here to wait on them, they click a button and a sales associate will show up.

And once you're in the store, Walmart hopes you'll buy something else.

"It's going to let you come to the store and it's going to give you an additional discount," says Dziobak.

Earlier this year, Walmart announced a lower free-shipping threshold, faster delivery and no membership fee.
