Funeral and visitation arrangements set for Justin McIntire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Brackenridge community will start paying their final respects to the late police chief Justin McIntire. 

McIntire was shot and killed in the line of duty last Monday, Jan. 2.

Visitation for Chief McIntire will be held today and Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home. 

Allegheny County Police are asking visitors to park at Valley High School on Stevenson Boulevard, with a free shuttle bus service running to and from the funeral home. 

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at noon at Mount Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church followed by the burial at Mount Airy Cemetary in Natrona Heights.

The Harrison Hills Volunteer Fire Department on Sunday released a list of road closures that will take effect due to McIntire's funeral procession.

"Due to the proceedings for Brackenridge Borough Chief of Police Justin McIntire, streets in the city of New Kensington, Boroughs of Tarentum and Brackenridge, and Township of Harrison will be closed for long portions of the day. Please use caution when traveling to these areas and plan your travel accordingly. Traffic is anticipated to back up in certain areas. More roads may close unexpectedly and without warning, depending on the need of the funeral," the department said in a Facebook post.

The closures will affect both Allegheny and Westmoreland County.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY:

At 8 a.m., the following roads will close to all traffic.

  • 7th Street from Constitution Boulevard to Stevenson Boulevard
  • Freeport Road from 7th Street to McCargo Street
  • Constitution Boulevard from 7th Street to 9th Street
  • 8th Street from 5th Avenue to Ridge Avenue
  • Ridge Avenue from Constitution Boulevard to Short Street
  • Short Street, in its entirety
  • Elizabeth Street from Freeport Road to Highland Avenue
  • Young Avenue from 7th Street to Elizabeth Street

ALLEGHENY COUNTY:

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the below roads in Allegheny County will close and can close sooner than expected, depending on the need of the funeral:

  • Tarentum Bridge Road to the Tarentum Bridge
  • First Avenue Ramp on the Tarentum Borough side of the bridge
  • First Avenue to Morgan Street Freeport Road to Mount Airy Cemetery (Across from Czekalski Real Estate)
  • Morgan Street to Freeport Road
  • Freeport Road from McCargo Street to Tarentum Bridge Road
