'Blessed Virgin Mary' Shrine Overlooking Parkway East To Receive Historic Designation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The shrine to "The Blessed Virgin Mary" that overlooks the Parkway East from South Oakland will be receiving "historic designation."

The Pittsburgh City Council voted 7-1 to approve the historic status for the shrine.

Better known as "Our Lady of the Parkway" the shrine sits on land owned by the city.

Giving it historic designation will give what is described as "extra protection" to the site.
