Video: Water Main Break In Wilkinsburg

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A water main break was reported in Wilkinsburg Friday.

It happened in the area of Hays Street and Lamar Avenue around noon.

A viewer video, shot by Tiffany Overly, shows water shooting into the sky.

Ruth Newell also witnessed the event.

"I saw this water geyser belching up water, I couldn't tell you in feet but it was really high and pieces of stone were scattering around," she said.

Around 1 p.m., the water was reportedly shut off, but a large hole was left in the middle of the street.

One man said the force of the water main break sent debris flying, smashing out the back window of his car. People helped him place an umbrella over the hole to keep water out.

An official with the Wilkinsburg Penn Joint Water Authority said a six inch line broke. As large as the break was, there wasn't a widespread water outage.
