Verona School Locked Down Due To Nearby Police Incident

VERONA (KDKA) -- A school in Verona was locked down Thursday due to a nearby police situation.

A statement on the Riverview School District's website said Verner Elementary was placed on an "Exterior Threat Lockdown."

It was reportedly due to a police situation "occurring in close proximity to the school."

The statement goes on to say, in part, "Please be assured that the children are in safe hands and we are using this lockdown to keep them in safe hands. We are cooperating with the local authorities. We will provide updates on the district web page."

School officials said the lockdown lasted from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

It is not clear what the police situation entails at this time.
