US Wins Gold In Women's Eight
RIO DE JANEIRO (KDKA/AP) -- The U.S. women's eight rowing team, including a Bloomfield woman, won the gold medal at the Rio Olympics Saturday morning.
The United States has won its third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the women's eight, beating Britain and Romania on the final day of the Rio regatta.
The U.S. has dominated the event since 2006 and now has 11 straight world and Olympic titles, an outstanding dynasty in team sports.
On the team was Amanda Polk, of Bloomfield.

Polk is just one of a few Pittsburgh-area athletes competing at the Rio Olympics. Mt. Lebanon native Leah Smith took the bronze in the women's 400-meter freestyle and won the gold with the women's 4x200m freestyle relay team. Additionally, WVU student Ginny Thrasher, won the first gold medal awarded at the Rio Olympics for the women's 10-meter air rifle event.
Christa Dietzen, of Hampton, and the U.S. women's indoor volleyball team will take on China Sunday afternoon. Pittsburgh-area native Meghan Klingenberg and the U.S. women's soccer team fell to Sweden in the quarterfinals earlier this week.
