US Dept. Of Energy Welcomes Openness In Fracking Procedures

The US Department of Energy said Friday that it welcomes the decision by an oil and gas industry supplier to disclose all chemicals in hydraulic fracturing fluid.

Bakers Hughes is based in Houston, Texas.

In Pennsylvania, companies are required to disclose the contents of their fracking fluids on a website that is partially funded by the industry.

But critics say there are loose reporting standards, which allows companies to hide certain chemicals as "trade secrets."
