2 Pittsburgh Charter Schools To Close Thursday & Friday Due To Alleged Threat

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two Pittsburgh charter schools have cancelled classes Thursday and Friday after a threat.

The exact details of the threat were not revealed. The schools affected are the Urban Pathways K-5 Charter School and Urban Pathways 6-12 Charter School; both schools are on Penn Avenue in the city's Cultural District.

The school says it was alerted to the threat by law enforcement, and its primary concern was the safety of students and staff, adding that the school administration was working with appropriate authorities.

Wednesday night, the local FBI Office downplayed the threat.

"The Bureau investigates all threats until we determine they are not credible and this threat was not credible," a spokesperson said.

Urban Pathways isn't taking any chances regardless, and, out of an abundance of caution, classes at both downtown schools have been cancelled for rest of the week.

KDKA News reached out to Pathways officials, but got no response.
