Hundreds Gather For 14th Annual Women's Leadership Breakfast

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Hundreds packed the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh for an event focusing on women Thursday.

"We have a wonderful group here and we have a lot of power in the women in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, so I knew we would have a big turnout," said Kelly Gray with Women's Leadership Council of United Way.

"They give their resources, their financial resources," said Lois Mufuka with United Way. "They give of their time and they dedicate their resources to women's issues."

The Women's Leadership Council of United Way put on the annual breakfast.

The council is made up of women who donate at least $1,000 to United Way annually, but their efforts go way beyond raising money.

"We care about women in our community," said Mufuka. "We care about women veterans, we care about homelessness among women, we care about how do we move women from crisis situations to self-sufficiency so they get on with their lives."

"We talk about the needs in the community and I think a lot of women come because they want to give back, but I think a lot of women come because they get inspired," said Gray.

The council has grown significantly in Allegheny County. Over the past 14 years it has jumped from 500 members to more than 1,900. There are 5,000 supporters nationwide.
