University Cafe Closed For Cleaning After Reports Of Illness

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A cafe on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in western Pennsylvania has been closed for cleaning after more than 40 people reported becoming ill after eating there last week.

La Prima Espresso closed its location at the Pittsburgh school's campus Friday after students and two employees reported nausea, vomiting and diarrhea beginning Monday and Tuesday.

CMU said in a statement that the decision was made by CMU Dining Services and La Prima Espresso in consultation with the Allegheny County health department. The cafe had posted a notice Wednesday saying it was pulling some food items.

La Prima, which is at CMU's Wean Hall, is normally closed on weekends and is scheduled to reopen Monday.

Health department spokeswoman Melissa Wade said the cause is still being investigated.
