Uniontown Man Pleads Guilty To Child Pornography Charges

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A man already serving 15 to 30 years in state prison for repeatedly raping two teenage girls pleaded guilty to related federal child pornography charges.

David Kinteay Carson, 38, of Uniontown, was sentenced for the rapes in July. On Monday, he appeared before a federal judge in Pittsburgh and acknowledged producing child pornography by taking dozens of pictures of the girls.

One of the girls testified in the state court case that Carson made her use eye drops because she was crying after one assault. Police contend that Carson apologized and offered one girl $20 to not report him and also threatened harm to the girls' families if they told on him.

Carson's federal public defender, following standing policy, did not comment.

Carson will be sentenced May 3, but how much, if any, extra prison time he could face for the pornography conviction wasn't immediately clear.

The child pornography production charge to which he pleaded guilty carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum of 30 years. The judge could choose to run the sentences concurrently or to tack the federal sentence onto the state term.

Uniontown police said the sexual assaults began in March 2014. Police began investigating nine months later, after Uniontown Area School District officials notified police after they received certain information, which police did not specify.

Police said Carson acknowledged assaulting the girls, who were 13 and 15 at the time, and using a cellphone to take the photos. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar has said Carson took more than three dozen pictures of the girls.
