County police investigating shooting and sexual assault in Mount Oliver

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man is facing several charges, including rape, after a late-night disturbance in Ormsby Park.

Just before 1 a.m., Allegheny County Police were called to the park for reports of a female in distress.

According to police, once they arrived, they heard a woman screaming inside a vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, they heard two gunshots inside the vehicle.

One officer then fired three shots at the vehicle, striking a tire and another vehicle behind it.

Officers then ordered them out of the vehicle, learning that the man was sexually assaulting the woman inside the car, leading to a struggle for a firearm, and the man was struck twice in the arm and the woman in the leg.

Police identified the man as 22-year-old Maurice Ruffin and he is being charged with rape, sexual assault, unlawful restraint, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, and simple assault.

The district attorney will be reviewing the results of the investigation as lethal force was used by police.
