Turnpike Commission Issues Alert About EZ Pass Scam

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's a new scam alert for Pennsylvania Turnpike EZ Pass customers.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says a mass email was sent out.

It claims to be information regarding EZ Pass accounts, but it's actually a phishing scam that's looking for people's personal information.

Officials say they recognized the forgery right away.

"On our EZ Pass logo, there's some distinct lines through the word 'pass,'" said Tom Fox, the Turnpike Commission spokesperson.

They say the forgery does not have those lines.

Turnpike officials say if you receive the email, don't click on the link.

"When you click on that and if you're fooled into giving people your information, then it can lead to identity fraud and you losing some money, maybe through your bank account or through some other method," said Fox.

Officials with the Turnpike also say EZ Pass customers are only contacted through traditional mail.
