Pledging Cooperation, Trump Meets Obama At The White House

WASHINGTON D.C. (KDKA) -- President-elect Donald Trump's plane arrived in Washington, DC to a salute of water cannon.

Trump and his wife, Melania, exited the plane and motorcaded to what will be their new home for the next four years beginning Jan. 20.

"I just had the opportunity to have an excellent conversation with President-elect Trump," President Obama told reporters.

With cameras clicking, President Obama welcomed his successor.

Gone were the nasty words each had said about the other.

"We talked about some of the organizational issues involved in setting up the White House," said Obama. "We talked about foreign policy. We talked about domestic policy. As I said last night, my number one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that insures that our president-elect is successful."

Trump was gracious in response.

"This was a meeting that was going to last 10, 15 minutes maybe," said Trump. "We were just going to get to know each other. We had never met each other. I have great respect. The meeting lasted for almost an hour and a half, and as far as I am concerned it could have gone a lot longer."

As incoming presidents often do, Trump promised to consult with Obama in the years ahead.

"Mr. President, it was a great honor meeting with you, and I look forward to meeting with you many, many more times. Thank you," he said.

But then the president-elect headed to Capitol Hill to meet House Speaker Paul Ryan, who promised his help in repealing much of the Obama agenda.

"Whether it's health care, immigration, so many different things, we'll be working on them rapidly," said Trump. "We'll be putting things up pretty quickly."

How quickly depends on Republican lawmakers who have lived for years in what Trump calls the swamp he's pledged to drain.
