SHALER (KDKA) – A huge tree and live wires fell onto a school bus in Shaler Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident happened on Mount Royal Boulevard. The bus was loaded with elementary school children from the Shaler School District.

ABC Transit Co. owns the bus. ABC Vice President Todd O'Shell said everyone on the bus was okay. The bus driver kept the children on the bus until Duquesne Light crews could remove the wires.

Police, fire, rescue and EMS crews from Shaler and Hampton townships responded.

It took some time to remove the tree from the rear corner of the bus and the overhead power lines. There was significant damage to the bus, but it was able to be driven from the scene.

The news was not as good for a second vehicle involved.

KDKA's Rick Dayton Reports:

It was smashed by a limb of the same tree just a few feet away.

The female driver was taken to the hospital after being cut from the SUV. She was conscious and alert at the scene.

Two young children in safety seats in the backseat of the vehicle were not injured.
