W.Va. Train Derailment Sends Oil Tanker Into River

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – Some West Virginia residents are being evacuated after train carrying oil derailed.

Photos show a fiery explosion where the train went off the tracks in Fayette County, W.Va.

Reportedly, some residents are being evacuated and oil is said to be leaking into the river.

WOWK-TV reports residents of Adena Village and Boomer Bottom are being evacuated. It also reports that the derailment has shut down Route 61.

Public Safety spokesman Lawrence Messina said responders at the scene said the tanker is leaking crude oil into the river.

Messina said at least one and possibly more tanker cars went into the river. He also said the derailment sparked a house fire.
